Update on the impact of your Teaching Kitchen Project!

Here at Citizen Effect we have received an update from DCGreens on the impact that your In School Teaching Kitchen project has had for DC area youth.

What an amazing year of growth it has been. Before your donation, the Food Lab was little more than an empty classroom at Walker Jones Elementary School, and a glimmer in the eye of the K-8th grade students attending the school. Walker Jones has the largest school garden in the city (The Farm at Walker Jones), occupying an acre of land at New Jersey Ave & K Street NW. However, the 450 students at the school never had a place to prepare the vegetables that they were growing on the Farm. Their taste tests were limited to sampling raw ingredients.

The Citizen Effect drive last November raised $2500, kickstarting the Food Lab project, and allowing the school to purchase key equipment to bring the Food Lab to life! Thanks to your donation, students are learning simple, healthy recipes, and are gaining the powerful experience of growing and preparing their own food.

Thank you so much for your support for this project!
